Bolbaite

Three beautiful natural pools along the Sellent River, on the edge of the village of Bolbaite, Valencia (Spain).

Bolbaite is located 84 km from Valencia capital, in the direction of Xàtiva. This old municipality rests on the banks of the Sellent River. This river is a tributary of the Júcar that runs through the Valencian Community. The Sellent River divides Bolbaite into two parts (El Lugar and La Peña), which are linked by two bridges. As it passes through Bolbaite, this river offers a great variety of landscapes.

In the middle of Bolbaite, under the Old Bridge, there are many ducks, geese and huge carps in the river. Higher up, is the ´Sellent River Recreational Area‘ composed of  3 different natural pools to take a dip. Each has its character and is wilder than the next. The first two swimming areas have some signs of human interference. They have a stone walkway, stairs and a beautiful narrow arching wooden bridge. The last swimming hole is in its natural wild state.

The first section has a recreational area with a round natural pool. It has fountains and a picnic area on one side of the river. The second has a huge rectangular natural pool with a cute arched bridge with wooden steps. In summer, it has a waterfall led by an artificial canalization. They clean the water, control the water level and renew the water in this ‘natural pool’. In this area, there is space to place towels on the flat rock at the edge of the water.

The third area going upriver has a stone staircase and a path surrounded by vegetation. To the left of the staircase is a spring and a tiny swimming hole called ‘Gorgo Caracol’ in its natural state. Once you arrive at the top of the stairs, you’ll find the most impressive swimming hole, ‘Gorgo Cadena’. It is about 25 meters long. You can swim until the end of it, where you’ll see a submerged cave.

You will enjoy taking a dip in these 3 very different natural pools!
